OVER 100 YEARS OF SISTERHOOD, SCHOLARSHIP, SERVICE & SOCIAL ACTION!

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated was founded on January 13, 1913, on the campus of Howard University by 22 visionary collegiate women. These Founders organized Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated to promote academic excellence, provide scholarships, and deliver service to the Black community; principles that remain the foundation of the Sorority today.

Just weeks after its founding, the Sorority made history when its members became the only Black women’s organization to participate in the 1913 Women’s Suffrage March in Washington, D.C., advocating for voting rights and equal justice. This courageous act established Delta Sigma Theta’s lifelong commitment to SOCIAL ACTION.

At the national level, Delta establishes priorities, develops signature initiatives, and provides structure, resources, and guidance captured through the Five-Point Programmatic Thrust.

At the chapter level, local chapters use this framework to design and deliver programs that meet the specific needs of their communities, while still advancing Delta’s national mission and goals.

WHY DELTA MATTERS
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is more than a sorority — it is a movement. For over a century, Delta women have been at the forefront of advocacy, empowerment, and progress for communities of color and for women around the world. The work of every chapter, including the Los Angeles South Bay Alumnae Chapter, is rooted in this national legacy of purposeful service and leadership.
