MEET THE CHAIR!
My name is Ronnell Nichols, and I am honored to serve as the Chair of the Physical and Mental Health Committee. I am proud to share that our chapter is a 2025 Farwest Regional 1st Place Award-Winning Chapter for Physical &Mental Health Programs, a reflection of our commitment to impactful service.
Our work focuses on preserving the mind, body, and spirit of our members and the communities we serve.
I invite you to explore the programs below and learn more about how our award-winning efforts continue to put wellness into action.

FOOD DISTRIBUTION
Our chapter hosts a monthly Food Distribution event held every third Saturday of the month, providing essential resources to families throughout the community. Thanks to our partnerships with the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, WeHelp, Garden of Praise Christian Fellowship, and the support of dedicated volunteers from across the city, we are able to serve many families.
Each month, the Chapter is able to serve over 250 families, and it is always a blessing to collaborate with community partners and volunteers to meet the needs of those we serve.
COMMUNITY HEALTH FAIR
Our chapter hosted a Community Health Fair at Rowley Park in Gardena in collaboration with the Los Angeles Alumnae Chapter, bringing together a wide range of healthcare providers and community-based organizations in one accessible location. Through partnerships with organizations such as Kaiser Permanente, Providence Health & Services, and other local service providers, the event offered valuable health resources, screenings, and information to community members.
Designed as a “one-stop shop,” the health fair made it easier for individuals and families to access essential services without the barriers often associated with navigating multiple systems.
WLCAC X FOOD DISTRIBUTION
During the holiday season, our chapter proudly partners with the Watts Labor Community Action Committee (WLCAC) to support large-scale food distribution efforts that serve families in need. One of our most impactful collaborations takes place during the Thanksgiving season, when chapter members volunteer their time
Through this partnership, our chapter provides critical manpower to ensure these holiday distributions run smoothly and reach as many families as possible. This seasonal service effort reflects our commitment to addressing food insecurity while spreading care, compassion, and support during times when it is needed most.
MARCH OF DIMES
Our chapter proudly supports the March of Dimes through participation in fundraising and awareness efforts that advance maternal and infant health. March of Dimes is dedicated to improving the health of mothers and babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality issues that disproportionately impact communities of color.
By raising funds and supporting this vital cause, our chapter helps contribute to research, education, advocacy, and programs that promote healthy pregnancies and give babies the best possible start in life. This work aligns with our commitment to health equity and reinforces the importance of collective action in addressing critical health challenges affecting families and future generations.
WOMEN’S HEALTH FORUM
Our chapter proudly supports and participates in the annual Women’s Health Conference, hosted by our own member, Mayor of Carson – Soror Lula Davis Holmes. This conference provides a vital platform for education, dialogue, and empowerment around issues that directly impact women’s physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
In addition to participation by the Physical and Mental Health Committee, chapter members are encouraged to attend as part of our ongoing commitment to prioritizing health within our own organization. Supporting the Women’s Health Conference reflects our belief that informed, proactive care begins within and strengthens our ability to serve and advocate for the broader community.
RELAY FOR LIFE
Our chapter participated in Relay For Life, held in Carson, supporting efforts to raise funds and awareness in the fight against cancer. Through fundraising initiatives and a community walk around the park, chapter members and community participants came together in solidarity to honor survivors, remember loved ones, and support those currently impacted by cancer.
In collaboration with the Social Action Committee, the event also featured a voter registration booth, reinforcing the connection between health advocacy and civic engagement. Participation in Relay For Life reflects our commitment to supporting lifesaving research, patient support programs, and community education while encouraging collective action for healthier futures.
